WETLANDS OF INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE- VALLEY OF LAKES

Wetlands of Lakes’ (Buun Tsagaan, Orog, Adag, and Taaz Lakes) Valleys lie in territories of Bayankhongor and Uvurkhangay provinces. These saline and shallow lakes are located at 950-960 km from Ulaanbaatar, the Capital City of Mongolia.

Buun Tsagaan Lake is at 135 km in the southwest from Bayankhongor town, a centre of Bayankhongor province; Taaz Tsagaan Lake is at 160 km in the southwest from Arvaikheer town, a centre of Uvukhangay province; Adag Tsagaan Lake is at about 60 km in the east from Buun Tsagaan Lake; and Orog Lake is in the south from a centre of Bogd sub-province of Bayankhongor province and in the north of Great Bogd Mountain. Located in the Gobi Region, wetlands of these Lakes are surrounded by Govi-Altay Range in the south and by Khangay Range in the north.
