Eco-club members-school children are active in tree planting and watering
Climate change adaptation is one of the key focusing issue for WWF-Mongolia and its partners. Thus, WWF-Mongolia and Administration of Mongol Els National Park with strong support by school children-eco club members have been planting trees in a greenhouse since 2022. For the planting, the tree species (e.g. elm, Saxaul, Acer ginnala, Elaeagnus moorcroftii) well grown and adapted to the semi-dessert ecosystem were selected.
Actively participated in the planting, the eco-club members are learning a lot about how to plant and care tree seedlings and what woody plant species are well grown and adapted to the ecosystem. The children say that above all, watering should be done regularly with a properly set scheme and method. Selected and maintained a small plot for tree planting inside the school’s fence, the school children started planting by seed and twigs of some woody plant species including Saxaul that are well grown and adapted in the semi-dessert ecosystem in the plot under a campaign “One Tree per a School Child”.
