BEHAVIOUR OF MONGOLIAN SAIGA

A character of this book is the Mongolian saiga antelope (Saiga borealis mongolica). In fact, we rarely find a publication or printed-out material, which exclusively presents basic details of biological, ecological, and behavioral characteristics of the species. Hence, this coffee table book presents you some interesting facts of biological, ecological, and behavioral characteristics of the Mongolian saiga antelope, the endemic to Mongolia and critically endangered species, according to its current status.

What is an endemic species? Existence and distribution of a species are only limited to a certain geo[1]graphical area and well adapted to the area’s natural conditions. An evidence of this simple definition is the Mongolian saiga antelope that is endemic to and only exists in Mongolia and does not occur naturally in any other part of the globe.
To date, the endemic to Mongolia species population inhabits in approximately 40,000 km2 in a central part of Great Lakes’ Depression, namely Sharga and Khuis Gobi, Tavan Khairkhan Steppe, Durgun Khuren Steppe, Khom Steppe, and dry steppe in the western valley of Khyargas Lake in Mongolia.
