Conservation Goals


MAXIMIZE the biodiversity and ecosystem services of 12.5 million hectares protected areas for human wellbeing and wildlife thriving through 7 million ha of effectively managed NPAs and 5.5 million ha of “wildlife haven” state border zone.
 

 


2MAINTAIN rural communities’ wellbeing of at least 36 thousand herders (45 counties) that steward at least 880 thousand hectares of area critical for Mongolian saiga, Mongolian gazelle, Snow leopard and boreal forest through improved livelihoods resilient to CC, traditional ecological knowledge and nature-based solutions.
 

 

 

MITIGATE negative impacts on biodiversity in WWF landscape through environmentally friendly planning and green financial solutions.

Programme Goals

ASER PROGRAMME

➔  1,000,000 ha of steppe ecosystem are sustainably managed in an inclusive and equitable manner.

➔  Environmental flow of key rivers are maintained.

➔  The population size and the area of occupied habitat of Altai Argali are stable or have increased.

➔ The population size of Mongolian Saiga is increased at least to 30,000 individuals.

➔ The snow leopard population in key areas are stable or increased.

 

GG6 PROGRAMME

➔ The network of protected and conserved areas is maintained to ensure ecosystem services and protection for migratory species.

➔ Freshwater ecosystems and their services are maintained

➔ Inclusive forest landscape governance and management to benefit biodiversity, communities, and climate resilience is enhanced

➔ Grassland steppes are protected, maintained & restored

 

GG6 PROGRAMME

➔ Critical ecological processes and habitats of globally threatened Gobi migratory species are functionally secured by leveraging stakeholder’s stewardship and resources.
