WWF-Mongolia started the "Great Gobi 6" (GG6) initiative in 2016, to protect Gobi animals such as bactrian camel, Gobi bear, takhi horse, wild ass, Mongolian saiga, goitered gazelle and their habitat area, and to mobilize government and non-governmental organizations and communities. Today the initiative is expanded to become one of the biggest conservation measures.
Parties meet each year to discuss how to protect these animals and plan their work. As a result, the "Great Gobi 6" animals have been protected in some extent. The stakeholders joined the initiative annually gather for presentation their performances, exchange of their views on improved species’ conservation, and discussion about the actions to be implemented for the next year.
