WWF-Mongolia initiated a collaboration with the Mongolian Skating union to promote international awareness of the Mongolian saiga by leveraging the visibility of global sporting events. The Skating union participates in international competitions under the name and logo “Mongolian Saigas,” creating a unique platform to highlight this endangered species. Through this partnership, WWF-Mongolia connects biodiversity conservation with international short track speed skating competitions, using sport as an effective channel to reach global audiences.
The collaboration is being implemented in line with the ISU Short Track World Tour calendar from September 2025 to March 2026. During this period, awareness-raising and promotional activities related to the Mongolian saiga are integrated into international competitions, with positive conservation messages. These activities contribute to increased international exposure of the Mongolian saiga at high-profile sporting events. Overall, the initiative represents an innovative, low-risk awareness-raising approach that links sports and conservation to engage international audiences. By utilizing existing competition platforms, the collaboration supports WWF- Mongolia’s outreach and youth engagement objectives while promoting greater understanding of the conservation status and global significance of the Mongolian saiga.
