With regard to the current and future conservation actions of globally endangered Mongolian saiga, a consultation meeting was held at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism at initiative of WWF Mongolia.  The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister, Mr. Ts. Batbayar, and relevant specialists of the Ministry and representatives from environmental international organizations, the national veterinary office, and individual biologists and epidemiologists, as well as local officials and officers from Khovd and Govi-Altay provinces.
A number of concerning issues regarding the species population status in the country were discussed on the meeting.  One of priority considerations highlighted by the participants was the behavioral changes and better understanding on the species among the local communities.   The biologists strongly stressed that the Mongolian saiga populations have nearly come to its extinction so they recommended upgrading its conservation status.  Majority of the participants agreed on that the current distribution ranges of the species be set aside for state special protection.  They also pointed out re-introduction of Mongolian saiga after thorough feasibility studies.  The Ministry of Environment and Tourism expressed its willingness to support all the initiatives and proposals on the saiga conservation raised by the specialist organizations on the meeting.
